Under the patronage of Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Border Security Council, Inaugurated the opening of the 22nd edition of the International Federation of Otorhinolaryngological Societies (IFOS) World Congress, being held from 17 - 21 January 2023 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The event brings together 7,000 specialised doctors from 180 countries, and 90 companies that are exhibiting the latest therapeutic and diagnostic solutions in the sector.
The conference of the World Federation of Ear, Nose, Throat, Head and Neck Societies, which is currently being held at the Dubai Trade Center for Conventions and Exhibitions, set records, which confirms the status that the country in general and Dubai in particular now occupy.
His Excellency Dr. Hussein Abdel Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Undersecretary for the Public Health Sector at the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention and President of IFOS World Congress Dubai 2023, said, “The number of doctors registered in the conference reached 7,100, in addition to 105 local and international manufacturers, all of whom were keen to offer their latest devices and products, considering the Dubai market as a gateway to the East and West.”
He added: “ The largest number of halls recorded in previous conferences reached 27 halls, while the number in the Otolaryngology Associations Conference reached 49 halls, distributed over 3 places, which are the halls of the Trade Center, the hall of the Nofitel Hotel, in addition to the halls of the Conrad Hotel, where The results of 39 research by doctors from different countries of the world are discussed and reviewed daily.”
He explained that the Ministry of Health and Community Protection presented its humanitarian experience in the field of cochlear implantation for children who suffer from hearing problems and the number of difficult cases that the initiative has dealt with since its launch in 2018, which reached 65 cases, with the aim of compensating the sense of hearing for the largest number of children in need. Pointing out that the rate of hearing loss in the UAE reaches 4%.
He said that enhancing children's abilities to communicate and reintegrating them into society will contribute to achieving sustainable development, stressing the importance of doing good, which is targeted by the vision of our leadership, and represented by the values of originality and unlimited giving.
On the sidelines of the conference, a videoconference meeting of WHO experts was held, which focused on the need for the organization to stress countries on the need to enact legislation and laws that oblige all countries to early detection of newborns in government and private hospitals, while also asking countries to intensify special awareness campaigns. By protecting and preventing children from hearing problems, especially with the global rate of hearing loss reaching 1 in every thousand.
International companies participating in the exhibition accompanying the conference of ENT associations displayed their latest devices and innovations in terms of devices and technologies that also contribute to the treatment of sleep disorders and stress problems, as well as those devices that alleviate symptoms of infection with the Covid 19 virus.
Furthermore, the latest surgical endoscope for ear, nose and throat surgeries was presented with a three-dimensional vision, with easy rotation of the device by means of 3D, and it can also be used as a robotic device, and it can be used for all types of operations, including ENT, such as sinuses, apnea, snoring, and cochlear implants, to facilitate people’s lives and give them quality and comfort in life.
