Dubai, UAE; October 6, 2021: The tenth edition of the Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC) Annual Congress is hosting pre-event webinars about circular and net zero cities in the run-up to the in-person event on November 2, 2021.
Organised under the patronage of the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, the 2021 EmiratesGBC Annual Congress is themed, ‘15 years of EmiratesGBC: From Green Buildings towards Sustainable Cities 2030.’ Focused on raising awareness of green building principles, the Congress provides a platform for international and regional experts to discuss the latest innovations in the sector and acts as a forum for networking and discussion between members and industry & government stakeholders.
H.E. Ali Al Jassim, Chairperson, EmiratesGBC, said: “This year’s EmiratesGBC Annual Congress marks a true milestone for us, as we celebrate our own evolution from championing green buildings to being at the forefront of the conversation on net zero and sustainable cities. This transformational change was possible only because the UAE and regional leadership believe in the need for positive climate change action and a shift to net zero emission buildings. Our pre-Congress webinars set the stage for these important discussions, and the outcomes will be further deliberated at the in-person event. We invite industry stakeholders to partner in this initiative that will accelerate action towards net zero buildings by 2050.”
To create robust thought leadership opportunities, EmiratesGBC is hosting two pre-Congress webinars. The first webinar commenced with a discussion on ‘Circular Cities’ followed by a panel on ‘Healthy Cities’.
The second webinar which is scheduled for October 19 will focus on Net Zero Cities and Resilient Cities. The first session, sponsored by KEO, will be moderated by Victoria Burrows, WorldGBC, and addressed by Gonzalo Seminario, Design Manager, Masdar; Matt Collins, Senior Specialist, RICS and Dr Ioannis Spanos, Director of Sustainability, KEO and EmiratesGBC Board Member. The second session, on Resilient Cities, will be addressed by Faisal Rashid, Director, Dubai Supreme Council of Energy; Amy Lehoczky, Acting Head, Environment & Sustainability, Abu Dhabi Ports; Karim Elgendy, Carboun, and will be moderated by Dr Ioannis Spanos.
Among the key topics to be discussed at the 10th Annual Congress include the impact of rapid population and urban growth on building sustainable cities and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the climate change narrative. The discussions will also highlight the innovation and vision needed to achieve the goal of net zero carbon cities. The detailed line-up of the in-person Annual Congress event will be announced shortly.
