The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC) is participating in the 43rd Sharjah International Book Fair, organised by the Sharjah Book Authority at Expo Centre Sharjah from 6 to 17 November 2024, under the slogan ‘It Starts With a Book’.
At its pavilion at the fair, the Centre will present 65 new titles, as part of the 600 titles in total from the ALC’s Kalima Project for Translation, the Esdarat project, and the Basaer (Insights) series of research papers and studies.
His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Chairman of the ALC, said: “Participating in the Sharjah International Book Fair reflects the significant integration of efforts seen across various sectors in the UAE, with the aim of promoting a culture of reading, providing diverse content to the public, and andvancing the Arabic language and its civilisational message in society.”
H.E. praised the level of organisation seen at the Sharjah International Book Fair, noting that the event “continues to improve every year, reinforcing the UAE’s cultural mission and enhancing its global leadership in the publishing sector.”
“Book fairs in the UAE bring significant attention from the global cultural community for their pioneering advancements, efficiency, and cultural diversity, which is made possible by the constant support they receive from the country’s wise leadership and its interest in cultural events and initiatives that solidify the national and cultural identity of the Emirati community,” H.E. bin Tamim added, noting the Centre’s commitment to participating in all cultural events to showcase its publications and expand their reach, while offering diversity and greater options to the public.
The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre is actively participating in this year’s edition of the fair with a range of new publications, reflecting its dedication to spotlighting Emirati contributions and local publishing houses, introducing them to the large audiences and international publishing houses present at grand events, particularly in light of Sharjah’s leading position in the cultural sector.
The Sharjah International Book Fair was launched in 1982 under directives from His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah. It offers visitors an opportunity to meet prominent literary, intellectual, and artistic figures, while also serving as a platform for communication and building connections among publishing experts, librarians, academics, authors, translators, literary agents, and creatives from around the world.
