In support of patients’ mental health and recognizing the value of art therapy as an effective treatment, Bellevue Medical Center organized an engaging workshop for media representatives titled “Color Your Life”. On June 23, members of the media were invited to participate and go through the patient experience in painting. Behavioral health specialists were present to educate them about the meaning of colors and their impact on mental health.
This workshop aligns with the hospital’s art and entertainment program, which aims to alleviate the stress and anxiety experienced by patients during their treatment and promote positivity through art therapy. Around 300 patients from the dialysis, behavioral health, and oncology departments as well as hospital staff and visitors had joined this program. The paintings from each group were merged to create captivating art pieces, decorating the hospital’s main lobby. Additionally, the paintings of media representatives will be assembled into a commemorative piece, preserving the memories of this activity.
Mrs Rima Bejjani, head of the Psychology division at Bellevue Medical Center, participated in the workshop, providing valuable insights into the significance of art therapy and its profound impact on patients’ mental health. She highlighted the psychological connotations of the colors used in the artworks, emphasizing how they express and reflect individual emotions. She stated: “Today, we are witnessing the widespread adoption of art therapy, effectively reducing stress, promoting relaxation, and fostering a positive mindset among patients through self-expression and emotional release.”
Mr. Nayef Maalouf, President and Chief Executive Officer of Bellevue Medical Center expressed gratitude to the media for their participation in the workshop and for raising awareness about the importance of this type of therapy. He added: “As part of our ongoing commitment to promoting a comprehensive person-centered care approach, Bellevue Medical Center remains dedicated to delivering the highest quality of care that meets international standards. We acknowledge the patient as a whole person and we strive to provide a balanced treatment approach that addresses the body, mind, and soul.”
This activity is part of an ongoing series of initiatives launched by the hospital, aimed at consistently providing patients with high-quality services and care. These efforts have led the hospital to receive several recognitions, including recently an award and five certificates from the Arab Hospitals Federation for excellence in healthcare sustainability. These accomplishments add to the hospital’s awards and accreditations, including the Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation received for the fourth time, and the Gold certification from Planetree International for person-centered care, received for the second time.
