Dubai Integrated Economic Zone recognized for its pioneership in digital transformation
The Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ), an authority that consolidates and integrates the products and services of Dubai Airport Free Zone (DAFZ), Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO) and Dubai Commerce City (DCC), has been registered as a Johnson Controls OpenBlue Pioneer, and has received the ‘Blueprint of the Future’ award, which recognizes outstanding models of visionary thinking and digital transformation.
The award was presented by Marc Vandiepenbeeck, Johnson Controls’ president for the EMEALA region to Abduljalil Al Abbasi, Senior Vice President of Planning and Design at DIEZ, during the Johnson Controls’ COP28 Kick Off event at the Museum of the Future in Dubai.
With this recognition, DSO has joined an elite group of global innovators that have taken a major leap in smart city and digital transformation efforts by implementing Johnson Controls’ OpenBlue digital technology to transform their spaces, businesses, and communities.
“We are proud to welcome DIEZ as one of our latest pioneers leading the charge in digital innovation,” said Mohammad Khalid, Vice President and General Manager, Middle East and Africa at Johnson Controls. “Our pioneers demonstrate the true potential and value of smart buildings which are decisive in helping to meet climate targets as well as improving energy efficiency, occupant health and wellbeing. We are honored to partner with DIEZ to realize their vision of a state-of-the-art, leading and sustainable community at Dubai Silicon Oasis.”
As part of the project, DIEZ partnered with Johnson Controls to deliver comprehensive energy conservation solutions at Dubai Silicon Oasis such as high energy efficiency Variable Speed Drive (VSD) chillers and OpenBlue Services for optimizing chiller performance. These AI-driven services provide predictive analysis and maintenance, empowering DSO to maintain reliable operations, reduce its carbon footprint by 1848 tons per year and guarantee energy savings of 4.2 million kWh per year.
“DIEZ has spared no effort in piloting smart city solutions and advanced technologies at Dubai Silicon Oasis that boost efficiencies, in line with DSO’s position as a hub for innovation and knowledge within the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan,” said Abduljalil Abbasi. “Joining the OpenBlue Pioneers reflects our commitment to continuously explore ways of efficiently using resources and invest in optimizing performance, as we aim to contribute to the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050.”
Johnson Controls is at the forefront of transforming the built environment and promoting new technologies that will enhance occupant experiences and drive sustainability. In keeping with the goals of the UAE Centennial 2071, the company is well set to drive digitalization and sustainability in the country.
