Emirates Health Services Celebrates Healthcare Simulation Week

  • EHS hosted its first Healthcare Simulation Conference alongside training activities and scientific discussions

Emirates Health Services (EHS) this week hosted its first Healthcare Simulation Conference in Dubai as part of its celebration of Healthcare Simulation Week 2022 between September 12 to 16.

Organized by EHS’ Training and Development Centre, the conference discussed a number of scientific and practical topics related to healthcare simulation and its impact on the development of health education and training. The event hosted a group of medical education specialists from the UAE, Arab world, Europe and the United States of America.

EHS further marked the week by conducting a series of activities and scientific discussions highlighting the importance of simulation in developing healthcare capabilities. Advanced simulation skills trainings were organized through EHS’ digital learning and knowledge management system ‘Mahrati’ across facilities in Al Qassimi Hospital in Sharjah, Dibba Al Fujairah Hospital, and Saqer Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah.

Dr Kalthoom Al Balooshi, Executive Director of Innovation and Director of the Training and Development Centre at EHS, emphasized EHS’ interest in health simulation to enhance the capabilities of medical and nursing staff working across its facilities. Furthermore, DR Al Balooshi added that simulation provides an opportunity to raise staff efficiency through the provision of an environment that allows them to acquire more skills in line with EHS’ aspirations towards achieving sustainable medical services, in accordance with global best practices.

Healthcare Simulation Week Activities

Events during the week included a ‘Simulation on the Front Lines’ training, through the use of EHS’ Training and Development Centre's mobile simulation unit, where a team of trainers traveled to a number of specialized EHS facilities to carry out field exercises on dealing with critical cases.

A ‘Health Simulation Olympiad’ also took place, as a competition between teams working in various EHS hospitals to provide the best and fastest treatments for critical health simulation cases.

Activities also featured a ‘Injury Design Art Competition’ to discover artistic talent among employees, by depicting mock injuries using specialized health simulation design tools. The ‘Scientific Journal Club’ held a discussion panel on a recent healthcare simulation scientific article covering the latest practices and encouraging scientific publication evaluation skills among staff.
