The Primary Healthcare Department at Emirates Health Services (EHS) took part in the ninth International Family Medicine Conference & Exhibition, held at the Dubai World Trade Centre, where it showcased a series of medical research papers, along with the Professional Development Programme for Physicians at Primary Healthcare Centres focusing on emergency cases.
The papers included a research poster, where Dr. Fatima Al-Meleh, Dr. Naseem Mohammed, and Dr. Fatima Al-Marzooqi studied the prevalence of asthma and allergies in children in the Northern Emirates. A second research poster was presented by Dr. Asma Mohamed, discussing the application of the Ottawa rule before requesting X-rays at Al Madina Health Centre in the Emirate of Fujairah.
For her part, Dr. Reyam Al Darmaki presented a third research poster on the early detection of pre-diabetes and diabetes in patients at the pre-conception care at Al-Faisal Centre for Family Health Promotion 2021. Meanwhile, Dr. Kareema Al-Raesi, Family Medicine Specialist and Head of the Professional Affairs Office at the Primary Healthcare Department at EHS, presented the Professional Development Programme for Physicians at Primary Healthcare Centres focusing on emergency cases, highlighting the most important outputs from the training programme, from enabling doctors at primary healthcare centres to treat emergency cases to familiarising them with the latest medical technologies in diagnosis and treatment.
The training programme includes developing scientific and practical skills in treating emergency cases, such as burns, wounds, hypoglycaemia, hyperglycaemia, high blood pressure, asthma exacerbation attacks, all types of allergies, trauma, foreign bodies and other common emergencies in adults and children in primary health care centres.
Dr. Fatima Al meleh, Head of the Committee for Drafting the Guide to Treat Emergency Cases in Primary Healthcare Centres at EHS, appreciated the Department’s participation in the conference and EHS’ support in implementing a plan to provide the healthcare centres with the necessary medical equipment and medications.
Emirates Health Services had implemented the first phase of the Professional Development Programme for Physicians at Primary Healthcare Centres focusing on emergency cases, enrolling 53 general practitioners in September and October of this year, at the EHS Training and Development Centre in Sharjah. The programme aims to train physicians at primary healthcare centres to diagnose and treat common emergencies in adults and children in primary health care centres.
The implementation of the programme was implemented by a family medicine consultant, in collaboration with doctors at the Accident and Emergency Department and the Department of Plastic Surgery at Al Qassimi Hospital, in order to enhance EHS’ efforts to provide the best, most efficient health services to all members of the community, delivered by distinguished medical professionals.
