Mortal Kombat

A movie inspired by the much-loved video game follows Cole Young, an MMA fighter who used to fight in exchange for money while unaware of his heritage and powers. Cole soon realises he has a dragon mark on his chest and sets off on a quest to look for Lord Raiden, an Elder God and the protector of Earthrealm, who grants sanctuary to those who bear the mark. Cole then starts to train in his temple alongside warriors Liu Kang, Kung Lao, and renegade mercenary Kano as he gets ready to join Earth's champions in a battle with the inhabitants of Outworld. The movie directed by Simon McQuoid stars Lewis Tan as Cole, Jessica McNamee as Sonya and Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo.

 

Romeo Must Die

Two family gangs, Asian American and African American, engage in a battle to control Oakland’s waterfront. When the Asian gang chief’s son is murdered, the victim’s brother, Han Sing, escapes jail in Hong Kong and flies to Los Angeles seeking revenge. Han falls in love with Trish, the daughter of the rival crime boss, who is his prime suspect. Starring the late RnB legend Aaliyah and Jet Li, the movie is nonnegotiably worth watching.

 

Shadow Master                   

Directed by the late Pearry Reginald Teo, the first Singaporean movie director to make a Hollywood film, the supernatural action movie follows the story of Voaen (played by the martial arts champion DY Sao) who was reborn with superpowers after he was killed in a heinous battle in his past life. Starting his life from scratch, he takes a job as a night watchman looking after vulnerable families. While on duty, the warrior battles with forces of evil hellbent on triggering the apocalypse.

 

Ninja Assassin

Raizo, trained to be the ultimate ninja fighter by the secretive Ozunu gang, turns his back on those who raised him to seek revenge on the murders that they have committed, including the cruel execution of his best friend. Driven by vengeance, Raizo seeks the ultimate final fight, with his former master. The movie is directed by the filmmaker behind V for Vendetta, James McTeigue.
