As part of the efforts of Emirates Health Services (EHS) to provide high-quality services, Kuwait Hospital in Sharjah celebrated yesterday (Thursday) September 8, World Physical Therapy Day, highlighting the importance of Osteoarthritis treatments and their great impact on improving patients' lives.
The celebration was attended by Director of Kuwait Hospital, Afra Salem, Deputy Director of Kuwait Hospital for Medical and Technical Affairs, Dr. Essa AlMualmi, Head of the Physiotherapy Department at Kuwait Hospital, Nada Suleiman, and Assistant Director for Nursing Affairs, Maryam Abdel Qader, along with a number of Kuwait Hospital patients, visitors and employees.
Director of Kuwait Hospital, Afra Salem, emphasized the importance of physical therapy, which is one of the main pillars of specialized high quality medical and rehabilitation services which relieves pain and restores movement and activity. She commended the attention given by the EHS to develop medical services in all its health facilities and provide a better-quality lifestyle for individuals.
Nada Suleiman, Head of the Physiotherapy Department at Kuwait Hospital, stressed the importance of the Osteoarthritis theme this year. She stated that the role of the physiotherapist in treating joint stiffness and orthopedic joint injuries is key to selecting the appropriate exercises for each patient in particular, in order to avoid the necessity of surgery.
Suleiman said: "Kuwait Hospital in Sharjah provides daily medical services to between 20 and 25 outpatients, and between 20 and 30 inpatients, treatment services were provided to 5,040 patients during the first eight months of this year, of whom 30% suffer from joint stiffness”.
The World Physical Therapy Day celebrations, which was held with all departments at Kuwait Hospital, included an explanation by the physiotherapy department about arthritis, its symptoms, risk factors, and the role of physiotherapy in relieving pain and recovery. The Pharmacy department also presented the latest trends in osteoarthritis medications. The Orthopedic Department provided a detailed explanation of osteoarthritis, prevention strategies, and cases that require surgical intervention. Finally, the Nutrition Department explained the lifestyle interventions and the importance of maintaining an ideal body weight to avoid arthritis.
