Mastercard, Saudi Food Bank and Amazon collaborate to provide SAR750,000 worth of meals to families across the Kingdom this Ramadan

In a continuation of its long-term partnership, Mastercard and Saudi Food Bank (Etaam) joined forces with Amazon to provide SAR750,000 worth of meals to people and families across the Kingdom during the holy month.

In line with Mastercard’s mission to be a force for good — for everyone, everywhere — the new initiative will see the leading global technology company donate meals during the holy month of Ramadan through Saudi Food Bank (Etaam). A donation will be made whenever a customer completes a payment transaction on Amazon.sa or the Amazon app using Mastercard card. For every Amazon.sa website or app transaction made by customers in Saudi Arabia using a Mastercard card during Ramadan, Mastercard will contribute towards the donation of meals to the Saudi Food Bank (Etaam), which will distribute the meals to families in need.

Ngozi Megwa, Senior Vice President, Digital Partners & Enablers, Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, Mastercard, said: “At Mastercard, we understand our responsibility towards being a force for good and are committed to leveraging our brand and network to create a positive impact in our communities. Our work with Amazon and Saudi Food Bank (Etaam) is a testament to what can be achieved when different industry players come together for the greater good. We are grateful for their support in making a difference this Ramadan.”

Through the initiative, Mastercard’s partnership with Saudi Food Bank (Etaam) focuses on raising the awareness on the vital role and equal access to healthy, nourishing meals plays in safeguarding the wellbeing and future of all communities around the world.

Abdo Chlala, GCC Director, Amazon Middle East and North Africa, said: “Leveraging our ability to innovate and using our scale for good, we are proud to play a role in supporting Mastercard and the Saudi Food Bank (Etaam) as they help those most in need during this time of year. We are always looking for ways to give back to communities and help make a difference, supporting disadvantaged people across Saudi Arabia, and are thankful that we will enable these donations by Mastercard for every transaction on amazon.sa this Ramadan. We look forward to seeing Amazon.sa customers join in and help us drive true impact.”

Faisal Bin Mohammed Alshoshan CEO Saudi Food Bank (Etaam) said: “As the first food bank in the gulf region we take great pride in supporting people to lead the healthy, happy and sustainable lives they deserve. Our collaboration with Mastercard and Amazon meets an essential part of the association goals which is to strengthen government efforts related to the food security issue and provide the necessary support for families and individuals.”

The newly launched initiative extends Mastercard’s efforts to support people in need. Since 2012, Mastercard and its partners have contributed a total of US$33.4 million to the World Food Programme through cause marketing campaigns, consumer fundraising, events, support for emergencies, employee gifts, and expertise-sharing.
