Move aligns with the brand’s long-term goals for carbon neutrality and seeks collaborative efforts from related industries
Calling for cross-industry collaboration to build a more sustainable future, Nissan highlighted the importance of electrification in the development of a cleaner, greener, and more connected world at an Expo thought leadership event last week. Pioneering the way forward and showcasing its expertise in smart and autonomous mobility, Nissan addressed the most critical challenges and opportunities currently faced in the world.
Marco Fioravanti, Vice President for Product Planning in Africa, Middle East, India, Europe, and Oceania at Nissan Motor Corporation was a featured speaker at the Age of Disruption – How Tech Innovation is Shaping Our New Normal event, which formed part of the Travel & Connectivity themed week and highlighted the unique ways technology can drastically improve the world.
Mr Fioravanti said: “The mobility of tomorrow is going to be dramatically different than what we know today. If you look at the car as a commodity, not a lot has changed since its invention. It still has four wheels, a steering wheel and is powered by an engine. Yet, it is becoming much more than a device that takes you from A to B. Electrification enables us to unleash a potential that goes beyond mobility and has a positive impact on our customers’ lives and society.”
He continued: “As we accelerate the shift towards electrification, it is evident that a cleaner and safer future cannot be achieved alone, but only when stakeholders from mobility and related industries work in tandem towards a common goal. At Nissan, we have a clear vision for electrification. Through our Nissan Ambition 2030 strategy, we aim to deliver superior value by empowering journeys and society through exciting, electrified vehicles and technological innovations.”
In collaboration with Emirates Airlines and Etisalat, the event was hosted at the Nexus for People and Planet at Expo 2020 Dubai and explored how technology impacts sectors such as mobility, transport and logistics, governance, health, and tourism.
Other speakers on the day included Mariam Obaid Al Muhairi, Senior Project Manager of Dubai Future Foundation; Dr. Jane Thomason, Co-Founder of the British Blockchain and Frontier Technology Association; Jessica Sun, Senior Vice President of Terminus Group; and Khalifa Al Shamsi, Group Chief Corporate Strategy & Governance Officer of Etisalat, amongst others.
Bringing together industry leaders, expert researchers and disruptive innovators, the unique event covered a variety of topics, including smart and sustainable mobility solutions for the future while highlighting the role of AI (artificial intelligence) in the progression of mobility and urban living. Technological developments that have been the cornerstone in shaping our realities and reimagining the future, have played a pivotal role in implementing the ‘new normal’ and altering the way we work, travel, and interact as a global society.
As the Official Automotive Partner of Expo 2020 Dubai, Nissan’s participation at the world fair has seen it launch two new vehicles in addition to conducting the first regional showcase of the Ariya, the brand’s first fully electric crossover. Expo 2020 Dubai serves as a global stage for multiple discussions with global and regional stakeholders to accelerate the shift towards a safer, smarter, and more connected world. In addition to several digital engagements and tailored content developed specifically for the exhibition, Nissan is powering Expo 2020 Dubai with more than 600 vehicles, showcasing the brand’s very latest technology and innovation.
