The annual World No Tobacco Day campaign, is an opportunity to raise awareness of the harmful and deadly effects of tobacco consumption. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), tobacco kills over 8 million people every year.
Today, safer alternatives are available to cigarettes. However, most e-cigarettes still release dangerous carcinogenic agents like formaldehyde due to their heating process – approximately 20 micrograms (mcg) every ten breaths compared to 120 mcg for standard cigarettes.
UAE-based tech company Medad Technology has developed pioneering ultrasound-based technology to help support smoking cessation efforts in the country and ultimately save lives. The company recently launched NEB Mist, the world’s first ultrasonic cavitation smoking alternative, which is the only product registered under both the EU’s Tobacco Products Directive and the UK’s Medicines & Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency that produces no detectable carcinogens, including formaldehyde and acetaldehyde.
Mohammed Alshaiba Al Mazrouei, Chief Executive Officer of Medad Technology, said, “The World No Tobacco Day serves as a solemn reminder of the deadly impact of tobacco use across the world and in the UAE. The UAE joined the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control in 2006 to combat and regulate tobacco consumption.”
“Quitting smoking is always the recommended approach. However, those who cannot quit can at least significantly reduce the harm caused by tobacco by switching to safer alternatives. This is why Medad Technology invested US$50 million over the past four years to develop, manufacture and test its ultrasound technology. We recently introduced our patented ultrasound nicotine delivery system (UNDS) to the UAE for smokers who are endangering their health with a safer alternative to what is currently available,” added Al Mazrouei.
