The RIPE NCC has launched its latest professional certification for network operators and cybersecurity specialists, the IPv6 Security Expert exam, along with the IPv6 Security e-learning course in the RIPE NCC Academy. This is the third certification in the RIPE NCC Certified Professionals exam series, following the RIPE Database Associate and IPv6 Fundamentals – Analyst exams. These exams and associated courses allow professionals to develop their skillset and earn certifications in various technical subjects.
Hans Petter Holen, RIPE NCC Managing Director, said, “The RIPE NCC Certified Professionals exams and RIPE NCC Academy online courses are an exciting step forward in our community outreach and development. We are proud to offer opportunities to our members and the general public to advance in their technical careers and are eager to expand our available subjects.”
The IPv6 Security Expert Exam certifies that test takers are able to design a high-level IPv6 security strategy by designing filtering rules for IPv6 packets, choosing security options for IPv6 routing protocols, and selecting the proper tools for assessing IPv6 security threats and mitigation techniques. The newly certified IPv6 security expert will also be able to plan for how to protect an IPv6 network against common attack vectors and threats, as well as justify the need to implement such IPv6 security solutions.
As a complement to this exam, the RIPE NCC Academy now also offers an IPv6 Security e-learning course that teaches the skills necessary to pass the IPv6 Security Expert Exam. In the course, there are 17 modules and seven lab activities covering various topics on IPv6 security. The lab activities allow students to apply the concepts they have learned and practice solving problems using authentic tools in realistic scenarios. This will prepare them not only to pass the exam, but also to apply these skills in their professional careers.
Sandra Brás, Learning and Development Assistant Manager at the RIPE NCC, shared, “We have been working hard to develop new courses and exams that will really aid our students’ professional development. These courses and exams are made possible through our community members’ generosity in sharing their knowledge and experience, so their real expertise helps guide new professionals in the field as they progress in their careers.”
Following the launch of this new exam and course, the Learning and Development team welcomes feedback in order to continue developing new Certified Professionals Exams and Academy e-learning courses. There will be more launches in the future as the RIPE NCC ramps up its education and capacity building in an effort to help network operators to progress in their careers and adapt to the constantly evolving Internet landscape.
