Under the patronage of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment Emirates Environmental Group rolls the 2nd leg of Clean-Up UAE at Ragayeb Area in Ajman

 Under the distinguished Patronage of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, EEG organised the 20th cycle of the Cleanup UAE campaign. The Day 2 of the Campaign was conducted in the Emirate of Ajman in association with Ajman Municipality & Planning Department. Equipped with cotton gloves, bio-degradable garbage bags, sanitisers and masks 150 volunteers collected 580 kg of waste and covered and area of 2 km. EEG team segregated 75 kg of paper and 25 kg of plastic from the total amount and sent to local factories for recycling.

The programme started with a couple of speeches by the Chairperson of EEG followed by a welcoming note from Sheikh Eng. Humaid Abdullah bin Rashid Al Mualla, Director of the Environment and Development Department at the Municipality and Planning Department in Ajman.

 

The Co-Founder and Chairperson of EEG, Mrs. Habiba Al Mar’ashi in her opening speech thanked the Ministry of Climate Change and the Environment and Ajman Municipality & Planning Department for their friendship with EEG and their commitment to this campaign since its inception in 2002, she also thanked Ajman Police for their support in managing the traffic. She further said “As an accredited body of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), EEG is proud to record positive achievements of the Clean Up UAE 2021 campaign which endorses several UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) including Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities; Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production; 13: Climate Action; Goal 15: Life on Land and Goal 17: Partnerships for Goals”.

The campaign will continue to be held in other Emirates on the following days:

  • 9th December – Fujairah
  • 11th December – Dubai
  • 12th December – Abu Dhabi
  • 14th December – Umm Al Quwain
  • 16th December – Ras Al Khaimah (Conclusion of the Clean Up Campaign)

 

Mrs. Habiba expressed her gratitude towards the sponsors and supporters of the campaign. The main sponsors of the Campaign being OASIS and ZURICH, McDonald’s UAE the co-sponsor of this event and the Support Sponsors; Abu Dhabi Terminals, CANPACK, Dubai Investments, OUNASS  and  RAKBANK.

The supporting entities were also appreciated for their commitment; they included Lacnor, Aster Volunteers, Royal Bakers, Dabur, du, Emarat, Barakat, BYRNE, Al Ain water and Fujairah Plastic Factories. The official communication Partner of the campaign is ASDAA BCW. The Media houses that are supporting the campaign and help it to reach to all the sectors of the society , Gulf News, Radio 4 and Climate Control Magazine, were also greatly appreciated.

 

The actual clean-up began with the distribution of reusable cotton gloves and biodegradable garbage bags for collection of trash. Their tireless efforts were rewarded with refreshments and light snacks provided by supporting entities such as Oasis water, Lacnor Juice and Royal Bakers.

From his end Eng. Khaled Moeen Al Hosani, Executive Director of the Public Health and Environment Sector at the Municipality and Planning Department in Ajman said that “The department supports all qualitative and targeted campaigns to preserve the environment and preserve its precious wealth, praising the efforts of the Emirates Environmental Group, which strives diligently to educate the community, instill the correct methods in the younger generation and spread awareness. To ensure the creation of an ideal living environment in which all the necessities of a comfortable life and a healthy atmosphere are available.

 

Engr. Al Hosani added that the department was keen to participate in this national campaign, in order to consolidate the bonds of joint cooperation with EEG, as the department was one of the first supporting bodies and participants over the past years, stressing that the environment is human’s most precious wealth and preserving it is a joint duty and responsibility.

 

He added that the department launches throughout the year periodic, comprehensive and wide cleaning campaigns covering all areas of the Emirate to preserve the civilised interface of Ajman and encourage individuals, institutions and authorities to implement campaigns and cooperate with organised campaigns to move towards a green and healthy Emirate whose residents and visitors enjoy a pure atmosphere and an ideal life.

 

Engr. Al Hosani praised the important results achieved by the Clean-Up UAE campaign and wished the continuation of joint cooperation between all individuals, institutions, agencies and departments to achieve the desired goals and elevate our country towards to be amongst the leading countries in the field of environmental conservation.
