Abu Dhabi, October 31, 2021 – The Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs (MFNCA) organised an interactive virtual lecture titled ‘Federal National Council Election Campaigns – Terms & Conditions’ as part of its efforts to introduce the public to parliamentary work in the UAE and promote a culture of political participation in the community.

The session is part of the Virtual Electoral Culture Majlis initiative and featured Dr Ahmed Juma Al Blooshi, Legal Consultant for Zayed University, who spoke about the importance of elections campaigns in establishing effective contact between candidates and citizens, which would help bring the most knowledgeable and qualified candidates to the Council.

“Electoral campaigns are the most visible aspect of the process of electing half of FNC members, which is a direct result of the Political Empowerment Program announced by UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan in 2005 and on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the UAE’s establishment,” said Dr Al Blooshi.

The speaker shed light on regulations for Federal National Council electoral campaigns, including a statement of terms and conditions for electoral campaigns that prohibit speech considered offensive to the values and principles of society or that promotes hatred; specified advertising platforms that candidates must use; the timeline set for running electoral campaigns and communicating candidates’ messages and programmes to the voters; and controls on sources of funding for electoral campaigns, along with caps on spending, in order to ensure the legitimacy of the funds and monitor their use.

The Ministry of State for FNC Affairs is set to organise a series of lectures, announcing the dates, themes, and speakers on the official MFNCA social media channels: mfnca on Instagram and @mfnca on Twitter.
